World’s tallest building – Burj Khalifa, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Burj Khalifa, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

World’s tallest building – Burj Khalifa, was created with the intention to give Dubai a new icon, a symbol, replacing the hotel Burj Al Arab and indelibly mark Dubai on the maps with something unique that is not anywhere else in the world. And because in the Emirates skyscrapers rising like mushrooms after the rain, the decision ultimately was that they build the tallest building in the world, ever humankind could made.

54 elevators?! Yes!

One point of interest is that the final height has been kept in secret during the construction of Burj Khalifa due to make that victory happen and protect it against someone who could possibly try to overcome. At its height, 828 m it has 162 full-fledged floors and a movement of people between them is provided by 54 OTIS elevators.

Problems during the construction

The construction of Burj Khalifa began at 21st September 2006 and the building was inaugurated on the 4th January 2010. I think that something like that is really not possible anywhere in the World except United Arab Emirates. The construction was accompanied by a lot of complications like about every other building, but the biggest problem was finance despite the fact that the construction workers were doing from Pakistan, India and other countries for approx. 3 USD per day. They have not received their money for long time even though they were forced to do almost non-stop so workers went into the strike during which they destroyed equipment in offices, cars and construction and many other things. The estimated damage was about 1 000 000 USD.

To be able to finish the construction of Burj Khalifa, Dubai has to ask for loan from Abu Dhabi and it caused a very unpleasant thing for them. Originally the tower had to be named Burj Dubai and a lot of people still use this name. When Abu Dhabi agreed with financial assistance, they had only one condition – the tower has to be named after their Emir (chief of the town – I’m not sure if the mayor would be really suitable translation) – Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and so the greatest icon of Dubai eventually became the building bearing the name of a person who is inseparably linked with the neighboring emirate – Abu Dhabi.

Interior design contributed by Mr. Armani himself

On the interior design of Burj Khalifa was involved even himself, Mr. designer Giorgio Armani that there is also the first hotel of this kind – Armani Hotel.
